Bio

Ivy is a New York–based indie pop band formed in 1994 by French-born vocalist Dominique Durand, multi-instrumentalist/producer Andy Chase, and songwriter/bassist/guitarist Adam Schlesinger. The trio quickly distinguished themselves with a sound that blended shimmering guitar pop, lush melodies, and Durand’s unmistakably intimate vocals.

Drawing inspiration from 1960s French pop, new wave, and sophisticated indie rock, Ivy released their debut album Realistic in 1995, followed by the critically acclaimed Apartment Life in 1997—an album that earned praise for its sleek production and stylish songwriting. Over the following decade, Ivy continued to evolve their sound with albums such as Long Distance (2001), In the Clear (2005), and All Hours (2011), crafting music that felt both cosmopolitan and deeply personal.

Beyond Ivy, each member contributed widely to music and pop culture: Schlesinger achieved renown as a songwriter for Fountains of Wayne and numerous film/TV projects; Chase co-founded Unfiltered Records and produced for a wide range of artists; and Durand’s distinctive voice remained at the heart of Ivy’s identity, lending the band its enduring charm.

With hits like “Edge of the Ocean” and “Disappointed,” Ivy established themselves as one of the most elegant and enduring acts of New York’s indie pop scene, leaving behind a body of work defined by sophistication, subtlety, and emotional resonance.

Reviews

  • I'll never forget as I was browsing a music shop while on a biz trip in Minneapolis, the coolest dreamy music was playing, beautiful female vocals..."I thought I could do something good, but I'll never do that again". I checked to see what was being featured and it was "Apartment Life". Purchased it immediately and loved every track.
