The Grey Race

October 10, 2007
Music Snitch

Upon initial introduction, you might think that The Grey Race’s debut album, Give It Love, is simply a tender rendition of sugar-coated pop music. However, when you dig a little deeper and scratch the outer layer of this album, you will notice a much darker pulse that thrives off introspection. The prominent pieces of this album, such as Darling’s voice are gorgeously altruistic while the lyrics and under riding textures have jagged edges that cut to the chase.

The Grey Race built this album using inconspicuously delicate sounds that somehow make depressing lyrics like: These days they could break me/and turn this inside out/and before long you will see me crawling back", sound rather delightful. Graceful melodies run amuck on this album and make the yin and yang battle seem like a Viennese Waltz. The music on Give It Love, might be faint in decibel levels but the beauty comes in loud and clear. Even though The Grey Race sticks to a certain pattern and Darling’s soft voice is consistent throughout, the album is neither predictable nor boring. The Grey Race’s music can fill a room with wistful rain clouds of patience, so open up your umbrella and enjoy the mood. Stand Out Tacks: Jumping In, Goodbye To You, Straight For The Middle
