There’s no shortage of modern twee pop these days, with bands such as Belle and Sebastian and Camera Obscura taking the lead, and newer acts such as Stars of Track and Field and this Florida band following in their footsteps.
Whereas Belle and Sebastian have begun exploring other musical terrain (‘70s AM radio pop), the Postmarks tread several of the styles expected on a disc like this: brassy Bacharach ballads, glorious Beach Boys harmonies and jaunty French pop. Uptempo songs such as the opener, Goodbye, showcase the gentle voice of the band’s Tim Yehezkely, but the Postmarks’ best (and shortest) performance is the sad daydreamer Leaves, which ends as softly as it begins.
